Students enrolled in The Graduate Certificate Dietetic Internship program at The Sage Colleges in Troy, NY are learning how to increase their visibility and gain credibility as they prepare to enter the workplace and/or decide to launch a business or private practice.
While most students in their early twenties have grown up with social media and understand the mechanics of posting personal content, they face other challenges, such as:
- How to find their voice and share their knowledge
- How to be seen as credible by new colleagues and medical professionals
- How to use social media for business purposes
- How to handle the fear that often accompanies increasing your visibility
The graduate program specializes in preparing future dietitians in clinical, food service management, and community nutrition.
Dietetic Internship Director, Professor Michelle Morgan, invited me to give a talk on marketing to her students.
I created a marketing road map that has been resonating with audiences since I spoke at the Association of Medical Illustrators Annual Conference in Milwaukee, WI in 2019.
My presentation titled, Stop Hiding! 3 Simple Steps to Increased Visibility, outlines the steps I developed based on my client’s marketing challenges over the past twenty years.
The 3 Steps:
- Step 1: Overcome Fear
- Step 2: Create Unique Content
- Step 3: Generate Traffic
We worked through each step and I encouraged the students to find their voice and share their passion with the world. This is the roadmap they need to execute to become known, liked, trusted, and remembered.
The sooner the students can put these steps into place, the faster we will be able to rely on the next generation to help solve some of the world’s most challenging nutritional and health-related problems.
What would happen if they keep their ideas and insights bottled up inside? Well, let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
